This female shown below:

http://www.theboaforum.com/forumpics/monstertailclose7web.jpg

was bred for three months by the Pastel male on her still. He is the father of the best Scarlet Hypos we produced in 2003 by the way. He looks pretty yucky in this picture compared to how good he looked when he was about 3' but still a handsome devil.

This female is arguably, color wise, the most shocking Hypo on the planet. Certainly the most impressive one I have ever produced. I am really shook up a little seeing this happen... I am extremely nervous about what we could get from this breeding! Scarlet Monster Tail Hypos!

I am NOT going to be able to sleep tonight!

So far this year, a pathetically small number of females have ovulated for me but, some really important ones. Time will tell but ... I just don't know what to say. I can't think straight.

Later,

Jeff

Oh man.. I truely hope she produces successfully and makes babies as beautiful as she is.. (that monstertail is the one of my monstertail dreams.) She is by far my favorite of all of the animals you have shown us.. GOOD LUCK

I'd have to guess that anything you put with that girl would produce awesome babies. I can only imagine how nice the babies will be with that pastel! The one problem with a litter like that is going to be WAY too many keepers. ;D The rest of us will have to be satisfied with looking at the great pics of them! You're killin me, Jeff.....way to go!

Update!

Two months into it she is doing everything perfect so far. I will know better in another month or so. She is measuring in at 88-89 degrees consistently. Sitting in the "Heat Conservation Position" most all the time. She is still eating. She is getting thin in the front end of her body while the rear is getting bigger. I can't wait for this one. If I only had one litter this year and this was it that would be just fine with me!

She is looking absolutely terrible in this photo as far as her normal color is concerned. Pregnancy has not been kind to her overwhelming color but look at this pig! She is looking absolutely perfect right now! Look how huge she looks on the right side of her body and how skinny she is up front! Makes me very very nervous.

If this is the only female that given me a good liter this year? Who cares? That would be just fine with me!

She isn't that big. I mean she is enormously full of babies but she is only about 7' or slightly over 2 meters in length. She weighs about 25 lbs. She is looking really really good still. She is due in 35 more days, that's five weeks from today or July 26th of next month, about 840 hours or 50,400 minutes but who's counting right?

I believe this litter will have the whole Boa community on there toes until July 26th. I will be turning 33 on that date, which makes me believe she will have 33 babies on my birthday. By the way I own one her sisters, and she said she like to raise up one of her nephews or nieces! ;D

The_Boaphile
06-21-2005, 12:24 PM
She is roughly the same size her mother was when she had 53 babies and 6 slugs in 2003. Same length. She is not as enormous as the Monster Tail was when she delivered that huge litter of the first genetically proven Pearlescent Boas. Anyhow, I am still hoping for lots of really small babies which is what her Mom does for me. 40 babies would be really great but we will take whatever we get won't we? I just hope there are a few that are as much more RED as she was compared to the rest of the litter and LOTS of them just as nice as she was and is. That's all I want. That's not too much to ask is it?

Sojourn
06-21-2005, 02:06 PM
Doesn't seem like too much to ask to me! I think we will all be hoping for the same, because if you get some much better, there will be at least the possibility that you might sell one of the ones that will be just as nice. ;D

I'm very happy for you and your gravid female Jeff.

Are you going to hold onto all the babies or are you going to share your passion you have for that female with us by selling some of her babies?

Are we going to have to sell our house or car to be able to buy one?

The_Boaphile
06-30-2005, 02:47 PM
I'm going to have to sell some of them I guess. I am hoping that most of them look as good as she did as a baby and that the rest of the look even more red. That's very hard to imagine but knowing how color works, that is what I expect will happen. I am giddy with excitement not being able to talk most of the time when I think about her and the possible babies she should have. I had the Denny and Kathy Rimes here today for a visit. They were able to see her in the flesh and though darker because she is gravid, she is still an unBOAlievable animal. Kathy took numerous pictures of the hopefully Momma to be. Time will tell and hey... only 26 more days to wait. 26 days isn't really that long is it? I mean it's only 3 1/2 weeks, about, sort of, OK so it's 3 weeks and 5 days. Can't blame a guy for trying to look at the bright side.

So how many babies do you think she will have?

I am guessing 37 babies just like the litter she was born in. 37 babies will be perfect as far as I am concerned. Yea, 37 sounds good. Any other guesses?

Sorry, no prizes for the right answer.

How many babies?

How many of them will be Hypos?

How many of them will be Hypos like their Mom or better?

I can't wait!

coldjoe
07-04-2005, 10:25 AM
I will say 39 babies. ;D
18 will be hypos. ;D
11 of the hypos will be like mom or better. :'(

denny_rimes
07-05-2005, 06:35 AM
41 babies

22 hypos

And there is not a boa on this planet as nice as Mom....I hope her babies are though.

But then it's kind of cheating for me because I saw her in person and even the best pics of her do not show her true color.

Denny ;D

The_Boaphile
07-05-2005, 07:08 AM
Yup, Denny just saw her on June 31 of last week. She of course is in the thick of it and gravid looking terrible. She looks like absolute kah kah in comparison to her normal "Candy Apple" red coloration contained within her tail and pattern. She is absolutely by far the most impressive animal I have had the good fortune of having born here. I check her multiple times every day. She is due July 26th too, did I mention that? That's just 3 weeks away now!

She was bred by a really nice Pastel male pictured in one of the earlier photos in this thread.

13 days more till the 105th day past the P.O.S. date. I am biting my nails in anticipation. I was really nervous about a week ago because she was already quite restless but she settled down again allowing me once again to get some sleep. She is doing everything exactly right. I caught her laying on her side and was going to take a picture of her but she rolled over before I could get the shot. I have seen three or four Boas laying completely belly up when gravid before. That is quite disconcerting to say the least. She hasn't done that one for me yet. Anyhow, we'll just have to wait a little while longer now...

Day 100 and she is making her nest. She has cleaned out a spot on the right rear of the cage. I think this is very likely where she will have them. She is now almost constantly on the move investigating every inch of that cage. I am having a hard time thinking about anything...

My seven year old daughter is making me check her about every hour. She loves baby Boas and is enjoying the fact that I let her operate the "snake light" and check the two females that are due to give birth any time. I explain all the stuff they are doing as it happens. I had her and the "Big Wig" there looking at the Red Monster Tail female and told the Big Wig she might have them any time. My wife said, "Oh honey, isn't it too early"? My seven year old said, "no Mommy they will be OK now. They will just have big bellies full of yolk". She knows more about Boas and breeding them than most herpers do. That is great fun. The wife and I just smiled at each other. I would rather her wait another week or so but it looks like she is already looking to make the ideal spot for those puppies. I want to just sit at the cage waiting to see them pop out but I have too much to do. Feeding time at the ranch today and the plastic work just continues to run as well. I'll have to check her again in another hour or so...

They are all still in the cage where they were born. I normally remove the Mother and leave the babies till they shed. That will happen in nine days from now and you can bet I will be posting lots of pictures after that. I just moved the babies around a bit so I could count them all. Here is the count:

33 Live Babies (18 of which are Hypos)
1 Preemie dead baby
3 slugs
37 Total potential in litter

Does anyone remember, did anyone predicted 37 babies several weeks ago?

By the way a couple things I wanted to mention:

My seven year old Daughter Christina saw the litter of babies where they where in the cage basically a large circle of babies and goo when she said, "It's a PIZZA sized litter Daddy"! It's a little bit difficult to tell from the pictures but she was right. All those babies all coiled up into a large pizza sized spot on the bottom of the cage. Pretty cool really. Two of my absolute favorite things in life are PIZZA and BABY BOAS... not nessesarily in that order.

http://www.theboaforum.com/forumpics/monster-ball-closer.jpg

Another thing is this: Notice how these babies tails and saddles are the same color? Just like theri Mother. She had this enormous red tail, red side blotches in the tail, and that same color in those blotches went all the way up to her head. Saddles too. These babies, many of them anyhow, appear to have the same thing going on. I can't wait till they shed. They already look a more rich red color than the day they were born. I am so excited I am dreading them shedding becuase once again, I am going to want to keep way way way too many of them. I have a sickness you know.

Just a little history:

Here was the entire litter of "Monster Tail Hypos" born in 2000:

Here is a picture of their Mommy:

Here is a close up shot of the litter in 2000. I believe that's her shown at the top right of this picture:

This is the litter the "Red Monster Tail" was born in back in 2000. Here is a picture of her before she shed her first skin:

Here is a poor picture of her after she shed:

Here she is at about 18 months of age:

http://theboaphile.com/Uploads-7-24-05/monsterhypo.JPG

Another shot of her later the same year:

http://theboaphile.com/Uploads-7-24-05/monster.JPG

Can you say unBOAlievable?

Here she is in the Summer of 2004 aged just over four years:

Ok, after seeing these babies on all the forums I think I want to be put on a list for either a male or female.

So Jeff in order to keep all these babies from your Montertail to your Pastel, are you going to be more likely to part with any of your past boas that you have kept?

Hey it was worth a shot, you never know until you ask.

Nice pics, Jeff. I already see a few that are going to be hard for you to let go. Those "Whole litter in a Bucket" shots really show off the subtle differences in the babies!

I took a mess of photos but most of them turned out blury. I did get a couple decent shots though the color is a little off. I'll do better later...

I agree the "Boa-cket" shots always do a litter justice... :( I just wish there was a hole in it so one of'em could sneak out and head to "The Windy City" for refuge? ;D

I can't believe how red these things are! I am weak in the knees looking at them. Today I forced my 24 year old son, who doesn't really care about Boas, to look at them. I have it bad! But this is really terrible! Will I be able to part with any of them? That is the question. And if so when?

This is the best Red Monster Tail Hypo from this litter as a tiny little baby. She is in there toward the top just a tiny bit to the right with her nose pointing toward you. You can sort of see the third and forth saddles that connect on her:

This is a shot of her right after shedding:

Here is another shot of her in my hand:

I have taken a lot of pictures of her because she is the best one in the litter. Her color intensity is variable depending on when she ate last and when she is going to shed next etc... This time I caught her at a time when she was really red. The red just keeps on coming in more and more just like her Mom did as she got larger.

Here is another shot of her:

This is her slightly less atractive sister with a bit of stripping going on in the tail:

I don't know what those little specks are. I have them on lots of my Pastels though and Pastel Hypos too. I have seen them on other peoples Boas too. I think they look cool!
