I don't know if this has been discussed here at all, but I was just at Pete Kahls site, which has been upgraded and updated.
He has some babies that are het for Coral Albino available.
These babies are Pastels. Some show more red than others. Some are more washed out than others.
I'm thinking what happened, is Jeff produced what is essentially an EXTREME Coral Albino.
They are obviously his creation and I'm not suggesting that Jeff's animals are some kind of offshoot or anything. I'm just talking about what's going on genetically. More red in the ground and saddle color = more of a red wash in the Albino.

Are Jeff's Albino's Kahl or Sharp?

Through selective breeding albinos are thankfully starting to have more color..... Long ago Pete labeled his colorful albinos coral. Through trial and error he realized that the coral trait was hard to pin down, but one thing was for sure..... colorful X colorful= colorful. Now there are corals and coral hets which are the progeny of these colorful breedings.

Jeffs animals were refined, and then introduced into the albino trait, creating something spectacular that there is no question about whether or not its progeny will produce more pastel albinos. I do not believe the actual "coral" trait is quite so predictable.

Just my .02.

Also I don't think that Jeff has ever used a "Coral" in his breedings. As Jesse said the color is more from Jeff's selective breeding than something that can be pinned to a recesive trait.

I would agree that Jeff's pastels look like extream corals, but I would consider them differernt blood lines, and only really related by the fact that they are both from the kahl strain

Yeah, I understand that Jeff's Pastel Albino's were created completely on his own, through much hard work.
My only point was that it seems they have more in common than not.
I wonder what the results would be if you bred a Pastel het and a Coral het together? I'm thinking that would be a good route to go. It would keep the blood fresh. You wouldn't have to breed siblings together to maximize the trait that way.
As long as the Pastel hets are Kahl Albino, I think that's the route I'm going to go.
