I have seen some people breeding columbians with hogs. Why is that and do they stay smaller? Sorry if I sound stupid but I am like a spounge and I am trying to learn all I can. This is the first that I have heared of this. Is there a reason for breeding them together? Thanks, Shannon

hey shannon,

i am fairly new to this as well, but from what little i have read, they apparently do it for the color (and from the pinks and yellows i've seen in them, i can see why, though personally i don't think it's right). maybe they do it to keep them shorter too, who knows? hopefully someone with more knowledge about that will shed some light on it. cheers. - RD

Wow your baby is beautiful. Thanks for writing. I was just wondering about it, it seems odd. Maybe because I just don't know why it is done. This is my baby. Shan

No way she is only about 3 1/2 ft. I got her from a nice reptile store in Moreno Valley, Ca. She was only $65.00. I was very lucky. I am lucky enough to get one of coldjoes Hypos and in a few years I am going to breed. I may have to build on another room for more. LOL It really is hard to have just one!!!!!
Thanks for the nice words. Shannon

Its done to make different looking animals.  Hoggs when bred into hypos make some of the best most washed out hypos around and will help when included in other combination morphs down the road.

So when you breed a Hogg with a columbian will it affect their size. Are they much smaller? By any chance would any one have a picture of a hogg columbian cross??? I have never seen one I have only read about them. Do they look nice?    Shan

Both hogs and common boas are BCI so they are not realy a subspecies cross, but just a locality cross. Hogs are a bit smaller than your average common boa, so the babies could be smaller.
Crossing different types doesn't always make babies that look 50/50 some may look more hog and some more like regular boas, the size could go either way or somewhere inbetween.

Here is a friends hypo x hog.

Oh wow that is a beautiful snake. They really look nice. I was trying to picyure them in my head and they sure didn't look like that. I like them. Thank you for posting the picture. Shannon
