Well, I'm looking into getting some cages for my critters. I'm striving for naturalistic/display. Hmmm.....where to start with my questions?

O.k...first question. There are under-cabinet florescent light strips....if the gap at the bottom of the cage (the "lip") is made a bit bigger, I could fit the under-cabinet lights in the gap. A section of the roof would need to be cut out and a piece of clear plastic sealed into the hole. (I'm thinking like inset glass tables) Well the question is: can the gap be increased and the "window" put in without compromising the stackability and strength?

I don't want anything that gets warm/hot inside the cages. Several of my serpents have burns from bumping against lights and heat sources. But I need and want lighting in the cages. (I have a number of reasons, most of which based on my Biology degree.)

My second question, was about using heat tape, but I've read up on that here and now don't need to ask.

Third question: I have several girls that'll be mommies next year, and my guys like to swim. I had a few ideas for "boaphile plastics" accessories. Just want to toss them out. The first idea is for a square or rectangular box that can be used as a soaking pool.  It'd need the edges rounded of course. (Why are cages rectangular and water bowls and pools round??) Second accessory....a humidity box for my ladies to become mommies in. I was thinking along the lines of something like a shoebox (but taller) with a hole in the middle of a side. If it's plastic, it'll stay nice 'n muggy and won't rot out.  It has to be able to handle being slammed around a bit. My snakes like to rearrange their furniture. My biggest boy broke his last hide-box by smashing it repeatedly into the side of his cage one night. (plastic storage box w/o lid) He seemed to have a lot of fun doing it too.:)

OH.......I'll also install a misting system for humidity, any recommendations on what kind of system to use? I was thinking a Rainmaker jr. It's too dry where I live for much else to work. I've used bed-a-beast, very nice stuff. But it gets moldy rather quickly.  (good for hide boxes, and baby boxes though...small areas, my current cages take a brick and a half...and need to be changed every week.)

Well I'm rambling, but hey, I'm sick and the doc gave me some nice painkillers. :D
