View Full Version : How to make your Boaphile cage really ugly

Hehe...well, the enclosure experimentations continue. In an effort to make my SOHO (Snake Optimized Home Office) a bit more comfortable for mammalian cohabitation, I've tried wrapping my beautiful black Boaphile Plastics cage in ugly white Styrofoam--with the added elegance of hastily wrapped Duct Tape to hold the whole ensemble together. Feast your eyes on the decadence...

Mmmm, Styrofoam...

Trust me, it looks even worse in person than it does in these pictures!!! LOL

Of course, if this wacky idea of mine actually works out, I'll definitely be sheathing the Styrofoam with a thin wood veneer...maybe some of that dark Masonite, or a thin plywood painted black.

Results of the experiment to follow!

Hey Doc,
Just remember that the End justifies the Means! Besides, your Boas won't know the difference!  ;) I rather like the Duct Tape, it has saved my back end more than I would care to admit! ;D I'm looking forward to your results!

Heheh...this Doc thing is catching on and for some perverse reason I really dig it...LOL!!!

As I type this at 9:22pm PST, my ambient room temp is 75 F and I have lowered my DBS-1000's set temperature to 90 F. Also, I've set the two human heat pads that I have serving as UTH's on "Low" to see how that works out.

Currently I've got a pretty nice gradient going, with a 90 F surface temp on the hot side of the shelf (underneath the Helix radiant heat panel), 83 F on the cold side of the shelf, and then down below 83 F on the hot side and 80 F on the cold side. Ideally I want to keep the whole thing at no lower than 78 F on the coldest side (the lower floor, unheated side). We'll see if the Styrofoam does the trick... :)
