Has anyone ordered a boaphile cage with the preinstalled low wattage heat tape? If you have did you find it useful and worth the money or are there better options that you installed yourself?

For what it's worth, I didn't get the preinstalled heat tape for my Boaphile cage because I already had some on order with Helix Controls, who provided the thermostat that I use to control the tape.

Heat tape is easy to install; you just use some high-temperature "tinfoil" tape to affix it to the bottom of your cage, then plug the tape into your thermostat and "voila!". I think the upside of configuring the tape yourself is that you can position it according to your own individual setup needs, which will vary from application to application.

That said, I would be confident that Jeff would give you a great setup and it would sure be convenient to just be able to "plug and play", if you will, once you receive your cage. In my opinion, the most complicated part of cage setup tends to be thermostat probe installation, and specifically getting your probe in the right spot to prevent over- (or under-) heating.

Good luck!

My Boaphile cages all have tape installed! Jeff puts the tape in the bottom of the cage and covers it up with plastic. It is "Welded" to the bottom of the cage so it is water proof as well as perminant.

I personally like it for the simple reason that it saves me work. I am one of those people that, given the opertunity, would rather pay someone else to do my work for me. :-)

The Flexwatt is 21 1/2" wide and one panel or 12" long. It is only 17 watts of power meaning far less danger of it getting ridiculously hot like the higher wattage Flexwatt. Safer for your herp in the even of a thermostat or air conditioning failure. Safety is number one at "Boaphile Plastics"!

Thanks everyone for the much needed advice.
I think I'll get the heat tape option installed when I order my boaphile cage in the next few days.

I am also pretty much decided on getting a Pro Products Radiant Heat Panel to put overhead.

Any comments on this particular type of heat panel?

i had the heat tape installed in my cages and i absolutely love it! like jeff said, the wattage is so low, you don't have to worry about baking your snakes. matter of fact, when unregulated, mine varies from about 86-93 degrees (depending on room temp). it's perfect!
i'm sure you'll love it!

I am thinking of purchasing the 4'x2'x1' drastics cage for my 4.5 foot male bci. He is now in a 55long and is quickly getting bigger and bigger. I am wondering what is the price of the cage w/ the flexwatt installed by jeff shipped? How soon could I get one? Is there a wait? I think I will have the $$ by the end of the week.
Look forward to hearing from everyone. Please reply by email to wspsatisfyd@hotmail.com
