Should I coat my enclosure?

I have a very nice wooden enclosure for my Guyana male. I have been told by a friend that it is good to coat the inside with a poly barrier to protect the wood. Anybody know a good product to use? If I do, how long should I keep my snake out of it before I put him back?

I Built a wooden enclosure and it it great besides the weight. The wood hold the humidity very well. Before I had the snakes for the enclosure I painted the inside with KILLZ 2 this paint is water and stain resistant. So far it has been great. I called the manifacuture and they said it would ok for a baby after 24 hrs and since I do not have any kids but have snakes I waited about a week. b30.gif
