Here is a close-up of the side vent:

A vent with the door removed entirely:

The two vents of course are totally independent of each other for maximum flexibility of air flow.

This particular cage is 2' wide at the front, 18" deep front to back and 17 1/2" high. I have made three other sizes as well. Haven't calculated pricing yet but wanted to get the first photographs out as soon as possible. I just wish I had a GREEN snake to put in this thing for the best possible photograph. It's all great fun!

Connect two cages for a larger cage for one animal or to introduce a male to a female without any handling:

Now that my photo gallery is working, I thought I'd share the pic of my new ETB in my new arboreal cage. :-)

Ron,

I was wondering why you would add the both vents on the same side of the cage? I'm not a aboeralist but wouldn't having one vent on each side be more functional to allow cross ventilation? ???

THe cages are stillllll s9.gif sweeeeeeeeeeeeeettt! What else are you putting togethor in the "THE LAB"? cwm15.gif

Hi amazon!

I am not Jeff Ronne, but I can help with that!

After talking with most of the avid, hardcore arborealists, Jeff found out one highly important factor about arboreal snakes: Noone agrees on how they should be cared for. ;)

So what he did was allow for the age old adage that the customer is always right. He made the vents a "Cost added option" on these cages and allows the customer to place as many or as few as they want. He also went one further and made the vents closable so you could further tweak the ventalation for your own needs. I have found with my arboreal cage, the vents on one side work well... I set the warm end of my enclosure up to also be the humid end. the cool end gets more ventalation... that way the snake gets to chose! :-)

Thanks!

Regarding the venting: remember that, due to the incredibly savvy Jeff Ronne, these cages also have a large and effective venting area created by the small gap at the edge of the front door. That alone generally works well for venting the cage, but the addition of these side vents is a pretty sweet option. I wouldn't be suprised if some non-arborealists order them for their "regular" boas' cages.

And I agree about placing the vents to one side...the cross-flow ventilation is a nice idea, but I believe would tend to significantly reduce one's ability to maintain both heat and humidity. By putting the vents on one side and the heat on the other, you'll still create airflow (via convection, I guess?) from side-to-side, but you'll be able to keep a warmer, wetter side vs. a cooler, drier side. And the airflow created by this setup would tend to distribute the heat and humidity nicely, or at least I would suspect.

But then again, I'm not a real doctor, or even a scientist. I just have my theories, like everyone else ;)
