First check out this shed. This is the result of having a cage that holds humidity well. A 6 1/2 foot snake shedding in one piece is a delight to me.  ;D

One long piece from a snake that had a history of bad sheds.

Don't ever use Quat Plus disinfectant on your Boaphile plastics. Take it from me. This is what the stuff did to my door. No joke!

It got in around the hinges and caused the plastic to shrink and crack. Freaked me out. I thought someone was in my house vandalizing my cages... went for my glock and the whole nine yards... lol. I'm from NYC where paranoia is healthy.

Then I called Jeff. He thought I was smoking something when I told him my door was all cracked up. He sent me a new door right away despite this. And my set up is sweet as ever!

But now my female Albino wants one too. Damn! Maybe if she throws some babies next year I'll hook her up with a new crib.

What the heck?!? What's up with those plexiglass doors? How would Quat Plus do that? This is not good news. I am in the process of switching from tempered glass to plexiglass and I currently use Quat Plus. I know what you're saying. Use a different cleaner. I have about six unused bottles right now and that stuff is not cheap. Bummer.

Someone shed some light on this for me.

Hey Chad,

If you read the directions on the Quat Plus bottle you will see it says not to use on porous materials. I used it on the cage itself with no problem, but you see what happened to my door. I don't think the plastic Jeff uses is porous and that's why his cages hold humidity so well, but I'm not sure about this. I still use my quat plus for my water bowls and glass aquariums (quarantine cages) though. So it's not a total waste, but not on my cages!

Hope this helps,
Oz

Hey Bigoz I had the same problem. A friend of mine says that ammonia level could play a role in the plexi crumbling like that. I don't know though I just know that i'm going to stick to soapy water till I know what caused it.

MYSTERY SOLVED..........I also have a crack on the glass of my boaphile cage and I also use quatplus. Could I keep cleaning the inside of the cage with quatplus without cleaning the glass?

Use window cleaner on Acrylic or Plexiglas. It is some sort of crazy chemical reaction that makes plex go nuts ::) with that Quat stuff. I must admit I have never used anything but window cleaner, water and bleach 5% solution to do my cleaning. ;D I guess I'm just old school. 8) I am also a little paranoid that some of these other cleaning products may not be good for my Boas and or more importantly ME! :'( I don't have any death wish to be sure and I'm not anxious to hasten the inevitable so I will stick with window cleaner and mild bleach solution. :) Window cleaner and bleach will not hurt my plastic products. :P
