Well it finally happened, our first ever litter of baby boas was born this evening.  Kathy and I are incredibly happy to have finally gotten some babies.  Unfortunately we also got a BUNCH of slugs as well...18 total.  But we DID get 5 perfect little boas too!

Congrats Dr. Denny! Those babies look really really light! And that water bowl! Holy Moly Rocky! That thing is huge! Great babies!

By the way, just hard bowl the slugs, use plenty of salt and pepper too. They are great dipped in ketchup! Enjoy!

::)Congrats! I remember the first litter I had, simply amazing. Animal husbandry requires a lot of effort, but the payoff... how much you learn, how much you experience... well worth it. Are you expecting any more this year... even if the answer is no, I am sure you are revved about next season... fine work. :'(

We certainly learned a LOT from this litter, Jay. This is not the one from my previous post, she's due in 3 weeks.

Jeff, do you know that Joel suggested to do the very same thing with the slugs? Is Minnesota cuisine really THAT bad? :(
Oh wait, you guys actually eat lutefisk, don't ya? :)

Thanks, bushbaby. We're thrilled to have gotten 5!

It was a real pleasure to speak with you too John. I'm very excited about that little male now!

Thanks, Brett! You gonna be in Daytona?

Thanks Kasper, stay tuned more babies coming soon!

They crawled out of the goo this a.m. Drenton, and are already moving about pretty good.

Hey Denny-I had my Daytona at the Sacramento show...LOL With my wedding coming up on Sept. 10th coupled with the Costa Rican trip, not gonna make it. Hopefully next year.........then I will have more money to spend!!! ;D

Rockford,

Have you been to Costa Rica before... if not, man are you in for treat. If I can make some suggestions, be sure to check out the Tabocon Hot Springs and Tortuguero; the former is as refreshing as it gets, the latter, well... let's just say Bothreichis schlegeli at their best. If you're the kind of guy that every once in a while gets kinda orny (bird joke) then you would like the Quetzal as well... an increasingly rare find. Enjoy! When you get back we can compare pictures, if I ever get mine scanned in... let's see it's been 7 years so maybe by next year. ;D

Congrats Denny! The babies look sahweet!!! :'(

I do not have any recipes for you on the slugs. I would imagine them to be better out than in, though, no matter the situation. ;D

Do you have any more hopeful litters this year? What are your plans for the male you are getting from John?

Thanks Ryan and Jesse.
We have one more gravid girl this season, due in 3 weeks.
We have no immediate plans for the male from Mr. Lokken, he was just too nice to pass on though!

Well I suppose if you're going to have slugs, a good recipie for them is better than simply pitching them in the trash.

Here are a few sugestions that I thought of:

Curried Slugs- A nice green curry with peppers and coconut milk
Slugs al pesto- what can you say but "delicioso"!
Pickled slugs- Anybody wretching yet?
Slug Lo-mein-to be eaten with chopsticks, of course!

Any more haute cuisine suggestions, anyone?

Kathy just gave me a GREAT idea!
Sell the little buggers to the folks at "Fear Factor" and we can watch those fools on television eat them!

Now THAT is funny! I don't care who you are, that's funny!

Denny ;D

I don't know if you know this or not but slugs are quite sweet. Add just a little Karo Syrup, dark or light depending on your taste, (I prefer the light) warm slightly, stir gently and badda boom badda bang... pancake syrup fit for a Boa maniac!

LordZeal
08-11-2005, 06:25 AM
You should put some of your Slug's and Karo syrup in the next Boaphile video!

You guys are all sick! :(

Later,

PS: Put a slug in between two pieces of bread with lettuce and tomatoe you got yourself a SLT sandwich!
