I know exactly what you mean.I'm almost 15 and i'm so broke it's not funny. I'd like to breed boas but I can't afford them or their cages. I do have a female boa but she's like 12 ;is that to old to breed ? Anyway i'm saving my money for the boas but as for the cages i'm just going to have to make them out of plywood; none of those fancy "boaphile" cages LOL

haha,,i already breed columbians, not this year tho,,,i have 4 females and 4 males,,a few hets but nothing special,..i love em tho,,,,,i currently house mine,,in USED aqariums i buy for like 5-10 bux,,,and rubbermaid tubs,,,its realy starting to look crappy with all these rubbermmaid tubs and tanks laying around....thats why i would love to have a nice boaphile cage set up,,,but id even be happy with just ONE BLANKET BOX RACK,because my females set up isnt that bad,,but my males are the ones in the rubbermaids tubs layin all over,,so that would be nice for them AND me,,hehehe only 339 ill get it next year I HOPE,,,and about your 12yr old female,,she would probably make you alotta babies,,,she a big girL????

I would get a ball python if i were you. They are great "starter" snake. They are extremely docile in fact I don't know what will make them bite besides the scent of prey. Boa constrictors are great snakes but I wouldn't recommend them for first time buyers. They require more experienced keepers because they may be docile but they also have to be respected at ALL times. The room for error is much greater with ball pythons. Your first experience with snakes should be a great one and not something yopu regret because you bought something you were not ready for.

I agree 100%, my son is 10 and I started him out with a Ball python, we still have him. Then after he proved he was responsible and could handle it we moved up to boa's and that is when i got hooked on them. I have a 2.5 year old ball python for sale if anyone is interested. Great snake, male, all around good pet.

Hey guys, being your age can be a good thing too. You may not be able to afford boaphile cages, but you all have a resource that most of us don't, WOOD SHOP!!! You can take wood shop class at school, there are all the tools you need to make some great cages for your snakes. Find a cage setup that suits you, and make it in shop class, not only will you end up with some caging that will keep you going but you get credit for it too.

yes, woodshop, good idea, and if your a desperate little punk like me (16) then go around to construction sites at night and "borrow" plywood lol. actually, sometimes you dont have to "borrow," sometimes if you ask them for spare sheets of plywood they will give them out. but make sure you clean the wood off, make sure its sanded down, dont leave sharp edges, and other things that should be a given. by the way constrictor...how much are you charging for your males?
