Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I've got a few quick questions, regarding Boaphile's 5-6 foot cages.

I need to purchase a larger cage for my dwarf retic, she's approaching the 8 foot mark.  I wanted to put her in a 5 to 6 foot enclosure,
I've been looking at numerous manufacturers and boaphile is definitely one of my considerations.

How do you like the two piece design (e.g., 3 footer plus the 2 footer bolted together)?
Is there a noticeable gap between the adjoining pieces?
Since it's not one piece, how durable are the cages once bolted together?
Would the cages hold up to the curious nature of a retic?

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions  ;D

Thanks,

Susan P.

Wow, from what I hear there are tons of boaphile customers...I'm surprised no one responded to my post...does anyone have input on my original post ::)

Hi Susan,
IMO, your can't go wrong housing your Retic in a Boaphile Plastics expandable end cage. I currently have 6 of them for some pretty hefty Boas(7-8 ft.) and couldn't be happier. There is no gap between the 2 cages and they are as durable as the one piece cage. I've tried other large cages from some of the other manufacturers and trust me when I tell you that Boaphile Plastics cages are far superior! I even had a large female almost die due to a terrible design flaw in one of those cages. I'm convinced that if I had not gone down to the snake room when I did, the female in question would not be alive today! Go with the Boaphile Plastics cage, you won't regret it!

I think depth can be an issue as your retic gets very big... Thought I should throw that out there.

Depth is definitely an issue. I think the cages we build are not well suited for anything over about 13' in length. That is right now. I am seriously thinking about starting to build 30" deep cages which would take anything up to about 16'. That covers most big snakes. The really big snakes, Retics and Burms, should have the taller cage as they can be quite "tall" when wrapped around a rabbit or even a pig. The 11.5" tall cages work for all Boas. That is at least all the Boas I have experience with. The biggest I have are around 10'. Very very few Boas are bigger than that.

Watch this summer, we may just come out with that bigger cage...
