I was stationed at Naval Hospital Rota, Spain from 1998-2002.
While there we try to do our part by taking in the culture and try to learn to speak spanish. I do not speak spanish fluently but, I can manage. This story took place in 98 when me and my coworker were both fairly new to spain. Well, on the base we worked hand and hand with the spanish civilians and spanish military. One day a co worker and I had put in a work request to have some shelfs and drawers put up on the wall in our work place. Eventually the spanish facility workers show up to hang the drawers. They ask were we would like them. Seeing this as an oppertune time for him to use some of the spanish we had learned. Cajon(Ka-Hone) is drawer in spanish. My friend figured theres multiple drawers so he would make it plural. So, he says just nail the Cajonees to the wall over there. The two spanish workers bust out in laughter!!
Myself and my friend kind of puzzled look at each other then ask whats so funny. After a brief pause one of the spanish fellows says through broken english. " Your buddy just told us to nail his balls to the wall!" At this time we all broke out into laughter and I made a mental note of what cajonees were. Needless to say we made the spanish workers day and we heard about it from everybody for about 2 weeks after that.. :'(
