Hello i'm new to the site (first post) sorry if this has been answered before though i have searched. Basically i have a red tailed boa about 5.5 foot long and have had him (Burt) for just over 6 months and hes has grown about half a foot, i am new the the snake theme and a little worried that the cage i have for him is too small, the cage i have is 3 foot long x 3 foot high x 2 foot wide and it was made from an old chest of draws, while i could sort out something better. i have now come to the point of rehousing him and thought to make him a tank for him to live the rest of his life in and possibly introduce a Girl friend once i have an idea what im doing, pmsl.

Though from pictures and info i have read, tanks are generaly wider or longer than what i had in mind, I was planning to build a tank 8 foot high x 6 foot long x 2 foot wide but seams over kill!!!

I thought boa's are tree dwellers so I plan to put a tree in for him to climb up and down, with a box half way. The bottom being the darker and cooler area for him.

Does anyone have any recommendations?? Space isn't an issue.

Also, could someone tell me how old he is as I was told he is 4 years old. His length doesn't seem to reflect his age

Hi and welcome!
I think the one he's in now is ok for his current size.IMO

The 8'high one sounds like it would be a helluva display!! You could shelf it out and store 5 adults in it in seperate compartments with the dimentions you have. I don't think the snake would complain about the extra room though ;D be sure to post pictures. I'm by no means an expert, but there are plenty of them around here :'(

Hello Martin, I would recomend, looking into buying a boaphile cage. Jeff has some awesome cages and they make great displays. If you choose to build your cage, use melamine and glass for the front...there are alot of cage building plans on the net. Nothing beats the professional stuff though. Great looking boa. Andy :'(

Welcome to "The Tank" martin.

I see that you are from the UK. I suggest you contact Jeff to see if he ships "across the pond". If he does, that is the BEST way to go. If not, there ae many, many cage plans on the web.

You can find some very good ideas at this link.
