How many of you like Black Boas? I love them. Always have loved BLACK.
It was my favorite color as a kid as well. This was back in the olden
days when nobody's favorite color was black. I had arguments with teachers
that black wasn't even a color! How stupid can you be!? Well... this
was public school so I guess no surprise there! Of course it's a
a color! It's the best color. Sure now lots of people love black but I
was loving black 37 or 39 years ago when black wasn't cool. I love black
Boas too. Many people don't like dark Boas except Argentines. I have the
blackest Peruvian Red Tail Boa I have ever seen shown here...

The is a beauty and I hope to get some babies from her later this year!

I am also working on some Black Colombian Boas. This is probably a couple
generations down the road before we get there but I am working on it...
Actually one of the blackest Colombian Boas I have is a het for Albino
female! Isn't that a hoot. She has had more Albino babies than any of my
hets. Some day down the road in another five or six years I may be breeding
her with one of these other really dark Colombian males I have just for a
little diversity and to make more black Colombians.

I love BLACK!!!

So what do you think??? Do you love black Boas or what?!?!?

One fellow at redtailboa.net posted this:

black is the absence of color. It reflects no spectrum of visible light, therefore it appears black. That's why black things get hotter than white things in the summer, they absorb all the light energy. White is also not 'a color' but rather all colors, it reflects all spectra of visible light...

You can't argue with physics

Anyway, I think the boa is cool looking, but I think a solid black melanistic boa would be even cooler.

My reply to this was this:

So your black jeans are really absence of color jeans and not black jeans. When they make the material that they use to make those jeans they add absence of color dye to make that absence of color material and wah lah absence of color jeans! Yea right! You can't argue common sense certainly not using physics with a Boa guy not dumb enough to believe everything Einstein concocted. LOL

I definately like black Boas...

Darker Boas seem to have a whole lot more irridescence, or maybe, the irridophores just stand out better against a black background.

There is definitely NOT an absence of color cwm15.gif....

cwm4.gifBlack Columbians would be AWESOME!!!!! cwm4.gif

Thats really nice looking. I like very much. I have to say that black is a color. otherwise we would say "hey look that snake has no color" am I right? Also with the physics description as a reason for it not being a color should we think of every color being the colors we are not seeing because they are being absorbed. I could talk for ever about that but what would the accomplish. how is this for a black boa?

I do like those pretty black boas. Almost all my mammalian pets are black, I even had a black horse before (named Chocolate). Really, really pretty.

Hey Jeff,

I really love black boas. I think you one you have is "REALLY" nice. I hope you get lots of babies that look just like her. By the way you're not the only one who's favorite color is black. My favorite colors have always been red and black. LOL.

Like you......I am a HUGE lover of the color black. I use to wear it to school as a boy as much as possible. Not for any type of statement.......But, just because I love the color. That was some 20 years ago. Not as far back as you.......LOL! But, a while back non the less. :)
I love black boas!!! That is possibly why my Argentine boa is my favorite. A large 7 ft black boa is amazing to look at. That Peruvian is AWESOME!! What makes her so.......In my mind....Is the white outline that boarders her saddles. This make a very distinct looking pattern!!!
Start breeding those black boas Jeff. Maybe my wife will let me buy another. LOL! :)

That is a very nice looking animal. I can't say it's my favorite color, but I would definitely own one if my collection was large enough for that to be the icing on the cake.

What I think would really be cool is an ALL black boa. I've heard Jeff comment on this before. Much like the snow is all white, the black boa's pattern would only been seen by traces of dark grey. Maybe some grey eyes, or even better; WHITE EYES! How crazy would that be!?!

I'm only dreaming.

Hmmm, Black Boas?

My favorite color has always been Navy Blue. However, I am not seeing any navy morph boas on the horizon, Unless Jeff is hiding some secrets from us.

*clears throught very loudly*

I guess that Black would have to be my next favorite color. It appears that many darker colored boas get overlooked in the hobby/profession these days. Most people are looking for something with a more "pleasing to the eyes" lighter appearance, and miss the true beauty and color that a black boa can exhibit. It is great to see so many people here that enjoy the full range of hues in the world of Boa Constrictors.
