I have been waiting for six years to get a photo of one of my Albino babies still in the sack. I've had them born every year since but could never catch them still in the sack for some great shots like this one. The contrast of the blood and the bright color of the babies is amazing! What do you think???

I just had to pick my jaw up off the floor. And to think... That pic is coming from the same guy who just recently posted that he was wondering if he had lost the touch. ;-)

Jeff you should immediately send that boa to my place!

It will take considerable time and studying to make sure it stays an albino! cwm4.gif

Not bad, not bad...only a few potatoes in the bunch! So I'm assuming all those normals are some sort of het for albino, right?

Can't wait to see these kids in a "Class of '02" lineup...good work Professor!

Jeff, was that a het to het breeding or albino to het?

I still have not removed the babies from the cage. I don't know how many there are. Probably around 25 or so. The female is one I kept from the first year I bred and produced Albinos back in 1996. She was one of two that I kept. The other is the mother of the "Pastel Albinos" I produced two years ago. She is gravid again now and due in about 6 weeks. She was bred by her son, which is the best Albino I have seen to date. Just four sweet potatoes in this litter. I hate those things.

The Albino has a large belly full of yolk. This is common with Albinos. They seem to develop more slowly than normals. The are often the largest babies in the litter as well. Go figure.

The breeding was a possible het to possible het breeding. I believed both were het though. I will not tell what lead me to believe this but I believe I can differentiate het from normals in a group of 66% possible hets. Can't sell them as hets based on my little top secret theory but I can certainly keep them, raise them up and breed them based on my little theory. I actually bought the male that produced this litter from Mark Kennedy in PA after he posted him for sale as a 66% possible het. I saw the picture and knew the little guy was indeed a het. Actually the best het or possible het male I have ever seen. Quite stunning. Turns out I was right. He and she were both hets.

Don’t ask how I can tell. I won't answer.

Jeff,
Do you find that there is any danger of toxicity from the excess retained yolk in newborn boas?  Do they soak it up pretty quickly?  I have had newborn emerald and amazon babies die within a few days, especially if there is a bit of flesh or yolk extending from the bellybutton.
John

Oh, by the way...Those sweet potatoes are really scrumptious sauteed with mushrooms and garlic butter!!...LoL cwm8.gif

Too much yolk in the gut solidifies and they die because they can't digest it. At least that is what I have always believed the problem was. Sometimes you can feel the gut tightening up or the yolk in there get hard and then you can count on it. They will be dieing shortly. I don't have any idea what to do about it. The thicker the umbilicus the more premature and the more likely the animal will not survive.

Mushrooms and garlic huh? Sounds scrumptious!!!
