Well the time has come for us to vote who will get the free Boa from "The Boa ThinkTank". Below you will find each unedited post from the eight individuals who all expressed interest in obtaining the FREE Boa being offered here on the Tank. Please vote for whomever you will. Along with that vote you may attempt to write a persuasive argument in an attempt to swing votes toward the candidate you feel should be given this free Boa. Nothing other than the number or name of the person you would like to see get the free Boa need be posted however. Please only vote one time. If you are one of these eight applicants please do not vote. Please keep follow ups to this post limited to a post that includes your one vote. Everyone votes no matter how young you are please vote.

Thanks!

Hello,
I love snakes, but mainly boas. I have quite a collection of boas, which include 3 red tails, 1 dumeril's, and a rainbow boa. I have more than enough vivariums and tanks in the "snake room" and am prepared to own another snake. A four-foot snake, or any size, would be a great snake for me to have. If I were givin the snake I would place him in a large vivarium that could make a great home for even a 10 foot snake. It has every thing a snake would want including a large heating pad, a nice basking spot, and access to a cool area. He would be fed very often and almost more than enough. I would hold him several days a week and pay much attention to him. If he happens to get sick, he would be rushed to a vet. I am 28 years old and majored in zoology and minored in herpetology. It would be a privilege to own a part Surinam and part colombian red tailed boa constrictor.

Thank you very much for your time,
Brennan Lane

Sign me up Jeff.

I'll give her a sweet, loving home and lots of rats to munch on. She will remain a virgin for the rest of her life.

I think she will like the weather here in Georgetown, Tx.

I feel that this snake needs to live here with me in Louisville for the following reasons:

She will love her new home: a 4X2X18" Melamine enclosure with a shelf and all the works.

She will be well loved and handled often.

As a break from my Shakesperian naming trend in my house, I think I shall name her Sarah since she wont be having any kids... Or maybe Mary since any children she does have will have to involve devine intervention.

She will be used as an outreach pet to take to the occasional classroom to teach kids the joys of reptiles.

Because Morticia will love her nearly as much as I will.

Because I am perfectly capable of taking care of boas.

Because I asked nicely.

-Morti.

[Edited to say] PS. I am 24 and therefore not a minor.

Hey there Jeff.

i think that South Africa deserves to have a Boa from Jeff Ronne here.

She will be looked after by Me personally ,
and i already have a very fast growing reputation for having the cleanest snakes here.....and we r still in the beginning stages of a reptile market here in SA.

People say that i treat my snakes like babies.....and thats what they r to me....MY BABIES.

i promise that she will never be bred.
As a Good and Faithful Catholic boy, i will even name it Teresa....afetr Mother Teresa...cause she'll be a virgin FOREVER. (hows that staement for a little boa thinktank humour).

SO this is my application to be the Proud owner of a GORGEOUS BOA from JEFF RONNE.

i hope that it is enough to win her, so that this new 6Ft X 2Ft X 3Ft (2mX800X1m) tank that i have just bought, can be put to great use.

thank u for ur time.
Regards.
All the way from South Africa.

hey jeff!
will here, aka cb76.
i would love to take in your female boa and add her to my collection. she will be cared for very well here with me and my family. she will be housed in enclosures equivalent to 75 gallon aquarium on a red cyprus/ aspen substrate- plenty of room for her to move around in and burrow. her enclosure will have a basking shelf and a branch for her to "chill"!

she will be handled with care. she will also enjoy beautiful days out side getting plenty of sun and fresh air- when its the appropriate weather.

i will not power feed her, but she will be fed a generous diet of rat, and maybe in the future, some rabbit!

you can be rest assured that
(from my posts on YOUR forum) i will not breed her, i dont believe in crossing any locale.

but that doesnt mean that this lil' gal doesnt deserve to be loved and cared for properly!
i will do every thing and all in my power to do that.

i also promise, if in the unlikely chance i have to get rid of my collection- she will be sent directly to you, postage paid by me!

please keep me in mind- i have the experience, knowlege, time, effort, money, and love to work with these and many more animals

later!

Hey Jeff,

I'd love to get this boa because all my boas are breeders, or future breeders, and I don't handle them much. I'd love a boa that I can get out and 'play' with and enjoy. I've built a cabinet of 3 4'x2'x1' enclosures, and she will call one of the enclosures home.

As I stated above, I will never breed this boa. Between breeding, feeding, and cycling, I don't get to handle my boas near as much as I would like. I will post pictures of her to the boa forum periodically so everyone can monitor her progress as she grows into a beautiful girl.

Thanks for your consideration,

Dustin

okay I am supposed to vote for only one?
this is so hard.  I can't narrow it down.
I would like to put in one vote for the following people.....
maybe split my vote up....

1.DENNIS_HANNA_SR. --  that boa would love that huge cage -- plus I gotta back up my fellow military men.  :)  Go USA.  ;D

3.morti-- what can I say?  My dear uncle morti would take good care of the animal.  Good size encloure. And what snake would not love to be in Auntie Morticia's hand?   ;)  Good couple  ;D

4.brandon-- gotta keep up foreign relations....SA needs a boa from the boaphile.   :)

5. Will (cb76)-- another buddy of mine...I also know he is going to take care of the boa.I have one of his.  He had one of mine. He loves animals as much as I do.   :)

6. colonel_sb-- gotta love the honesty.   Sometimes...hey,  we just love the animals..   8)

those are my choices....I guess each person gets 0.2 of my total vote.

Sorry...that is the best I can do.   cwm1.gif

Jeez, this is a tough one! Jeff, are you sure you don't have a couple other boas you can give away to the runner-ups? LOL :)

Here's my take on the contestants:

1. Dennis Hanna Sr. -

Man, it's hard to deny that this guy should get the boa. Added to that, he's gone out and gotten an enclosure that would fit her nicely, so he's moving forward towards getting a Boa, even if it's not this one. And he's a veteran who's sacrificed more than we can ever know for our country, which really means, of course, all of us (at least those of us who are from the U.S.). If any reader of this forum deserves a free Boa, then Dennis certainly deserves one.

4. Brandon -

Makes a great offer for one of Jeff's Boas to become an international superstar. Would assuredly take perfect care of her and provide her with a great home, and is even willing to name her Mother Teresa! :) The only problem I see is the CITES paperwork and shipping costs, which might place a somewhat unreasonable burden upon Mr. Ronne, who has already been so generous as to offer this Boa to the most deserving individual.

2, 3, 5, 6, & 8 - mariocol, morti, cb76, colonel_sb, and milksnakeman -

All are individuals with the experience, skill and knowledge to be able to provide an excellent home for the Boa. All of them own a number of boas already. The only thing that should keep any of them from winning is an overwhelming charitable intention on the part of all the voters to give the Boa to someone else.

7. boaguy12 -

This kid sounds enthusiastic, and I'm sure he is. He's got a number of animals already and seems ready for more. And he works in the promise of a cage sale to Jeff to help work his cause! Gotta love a go-getter! :)

-------------------------
Insert drumroll here
-------------------------

And here it is! My vote goes to Dennis, on the condition that he promises to always come to The Boa Forum for advice and help whenever he needs it with his new Boa, so that all the other respondents above, and everyone else in here, can help him should he need it.

Hello everyone, well Jeff, I also tried to vote earlier and can't find my post, so sorry if you see my vote twice. But here is my vote again. I looked over all eight of the profiles, and that narrowed it down to a really close three, but since I can't pick them all (sorry guys) then my choice is for colonel_sb #6. Good luck to all of you, and I'm sure whoever wins will take great care of the boa!!!

My vote goes for #1 Dennis. There is a very good point made - everyone else has snakes. Give this guy a chance at finding out something that almost every one of us knows - the joys of owning a snake. This guy obviously isn't going to breed it - he doesn't have any other snakes!! I just think that he has put in his time and deserves this boa more than anyone else, but that's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

Siri_Lin
04-28-2002, 09:26 PM
Well, my first vote goes to Brandon, since I think it would be good home for her, and she'd be very unique there. However, I do have to agree with the other person about the problem of CITES and shipping costs. So for my runny up vote, I'd say Dennis.

But if people are looking for a boa to give a good home to, boas are the most common snake I've seen on reptile adoption websites, the runner up snake being bermese pythons.

hello all,

i would like to vote for dennis. even if he has never owned a boa before, i wouldn't discourage him from getting one. we all had to start somewhere. my only advice is to spend many hours researching the proper care. and with such a fine forum as the think tank there are always fellow keepers with heaping amounts of knowledge to make it an enjoyable experience for dennis.

Ok, this is a tough one. I feel that all contestants have good reasons for winning the boa. But, as much as I like several of the entrants, my heart went out to Dennis Hanna Sr. Although so many other applicants have more experience, I feel the Mr Hanna  deserves a pet he can really enjoy. I feel that everyone should be able to experience the joy of belonging to a pet and since everyone else already has snakes, I would love to see Mr. Hanna's life enriched by pet ownership. Actually, I was going to enter until I saw his entry, I just couldn't bring myself to do it after reading his. Mr. Hanna, good luck to you!

My vote is for the young man #7. Boaguy12. I had a similar boa constrictor when I was about his age. I know young men cannot often afford to purchase such animals and are probably not as likely to lean toward breeding reptiles at that age. Plus, he seems to have some experience with snakes and seems to be capable enough to keep this animal well and healthy.

What a tough decision!  Morti and I are personal friends so I know that he could take great care of this boa and it is an added plus that he would use her for educational purposes.  I know CB76 and Boaguy12 from RTB and know that either of them could take very good care of it.
Then there is Mr. Hanna.  I don't know this man from Adam but I do know this:  He made the ULTIMATE commitment during Vietnam and sacrificed more than most of us can imagine.  I don't feel sorry for him.  I respect him.  Thank you for my freedom sir!  I truely hope that you get this boa!!
(edited b/c I thought that I accidentilly put an space between the a and d in Adam but it must have been the caps that caused it to see it as a profanity) LOL
Ok Jeff...your profanity filter sees the name A D A M as a curse! I swear I keep it clean or I bleep myself! ;D

my vote would have to be for Dennis. He is the only one who doesn't know the joy in owning a snake. He deserves it, and it is the least that we can do. After all, without soldiers like him who knows where our hobby or our country for that matter would be. It is people like him that protect our way of life. If it was my snake he would already have it.
Not to say anything bad about the others, they all seemed like they would take care of the snake. Dennis just hit a soft spot with me.
Good luck

8) Wow, Im surprised at all the RTB brothers an sistaz on here... how cool is that.. Im a fellow RTB 'brotherin' but will stay "anonomus" (yes thats spelled correctly)....

As far as voting goes, its hard to say, I think just about anyone on the list would give it a good home, so its all good regardless of the 'lucky one'... but if I have to narrow it to one, Im going for #1, Dennis Sr.... Most rewarding of an experience for him, therefor most 'rewarding' of an experience for the boa...

I wonder like Rob, if there could be any 'complications' in handling the boa once it reaches full size??? Where their's a will there's a way I suppose...

Subconsciously tho, I throw a vote down for everyone on the list... best of luck to all...

P.S..... I thought Id mention, Splatter is selling this boa on RTB so if you want to bypass the voting and just buy it, he said he will sell it to you.... ;D cwm32.gif
