I am not going to have very many babies this year but I was fortunate to get several of the most important animals gravid.

This "Calico" female Hypo:

She is measuring in at 88-89 degrees consistently. She was bred by a normal Monster Tail and a Monster Tail Hypo male! I can't wait to see what we might get from her!

Very cool Jeff, congrats on that, I have my fingers crossed for you for it to be the monster tail hypo, only time will tell though, either way the babies will be great.

now, Jeff, i have only seen 2 calico hypos...yours, and another guys...whos was unfortunatly lost when the guy was moving (it pushed a hole in the bag it was in, and got out of the box and wasnt seen again) Who produced them? are they one of your creations? and how did they come about?

I for one obviously can't wait to see what we are fortunate enough to produce. I have several females that I will be trying to breed and a number of males. The females are 4 1/2' - 5' now and are going to eat a LOT between now and this fall. I do have ALL of them produced so far. That should change next year or... perhaps this year if some things work out well. We shall see...

She was born here. Her mother was Lois. Lois is the Boa from my first video that was pushing the babies around with her head. Then my little girl counted those babies, also on the video. 49 babies in that litter if my failing memory serves me correctly. This I remember for sure, Lois just died about a month ago. She was more than 20 years old. The father of the female above is a Hypo. There were 16 babies in the litter. Seven or eight were Hypos. I kept 1.3 of them. I have bred the male but none of the females. All three show this weird inverse color thing creeping up the sides to varying degrees but this is the best one. She is also one of the most intensely orange Hypos that I have ever produced.

These were born the same year as the original Pearlescent male. 2000 was a good year. It was also the first year I bred the Monster Tail and made the first Monster Tail Hypos.

So anyhow, we shall see. Summer time at the Boaphile's will not involve a lot of babies, but hopefully some really good ones. Time will tell and I still have more than a week to wait till the first litter is due! Drives me CRAZY!

The Calico female is probably going to slug out. She isn't very large and she isn't doing all the right stuff I always hope for. So I am not very optimistic about her at all right now. I expect slugs in about two and a half weeks from now. You can't win them all...

Since all of your other hotties are dropping babies now Jeff... What is up with this fine lady? Did she slim back down? Your last post didn't make it sound to good.

She had an intermediate shed about ten days ago. She has gone back to the heat like she is supposed to but can't seem to make up her mind. That normally means slugs. Time will tell of course but I think there won't be any babies from her this year. I just fed her three jumbo rats yesterday too. That is how confident I am she won't be having a good litter. We shall see...

Can it be? ? ?

She is making a nest! Boas that have slugs don't go to the trouble of making a nest... She has been looking everywhere for the past two days, and now the nest... I just fed her three jumbo rats 10 days ago so sure was I that there weren't going to be any babies... We could be fortunate to have some babies from this girl after all! We shall see...

You must have "The luck of the Irish", Jeff.
I say that because "The luck of the Norwegians" just does not sound right! :(

She still thinks she is going to have something. I really don't know what to think now. I didn't see this one ovulate. I didn't know she was gravid until she was already into it a while so I don't know when she should be due. She is certainly looking around for the right spot though... A wicked storm just blew through here and there are supposed to be more coming. We shall see...

That sounds like what happend to me. I didnt know what was going on so I removed the male, apperently too soon. Four months later my female was cruzing around her cage she had stoped eating three months ago then plop, 9 slugs. She had thoughs eggs two hours befor I left the airport to go to Italy! Boy was I happy. Well good luck with this one Jeff. Were all hopeing to see some calico babys!!!Atleast one, come on just one! :P

Anything today, Jeff?

Tomorrow it will be a week since she started making a nest. She is still all over the place almost every time I check her looking and looking. She just can't seem to find the perfect place yet. We had a nice rain here today. We had 1.25" of gentle rain that lasted for several hours but she still has not figured the time is right... That or the place just isn't right as of yet...

Well it's August 15th. She is not looking everywhere any more. I gave her a rat on August 13th as I was feeding everyone else and she was going crazy in there. I am still very hopeful that something will happen. We have had a high pressure system in here for several days. It should rain tomorrow and the next day. Maybe something will happen then... Now a massive, and I do mean massive, Het for Albino is on the move looking for the perfect spot. She is pushing ten feet and was about 65 lbs. when she ovulated. Much thinner now which is a really good thing. She has started making a nest today. We shall see... This one was bred by a Anerythristic male Het for Albino. Should be 1 in 4 Albinos that are all Het for Anerythristic. Again, time will tell right?

That is to bad about the calico. Fingers are still crossed though.

I think this could be a trend this year. I had a female do something sorta like that this year. She swelled up huge, which i'm now assuming was her first ovulation (never witnessed the first), however I had already pulled the male. She was all over the place searching under the newspaper on top and then just stopped. Body swelled back down and she went back to normal.

Woohoo! I get first shot! I say 48 boas with an overload of 27 albinos from your 10 footer!!  ;D

She went into a shed again and shed today. No babies. I don't think there will be any. It was just really wierd how she acted like she was going to have something for so long. She is no longer "nesting".

That is a real bummer, Jeff. I will still keep my fingers crossed for you. Maybe she is just holding out until you have more room. Stranger things have happened. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear this also Jeff. It is so weird because just last night I searched back about three pages to see what the last update was and it was my post from weeks ago. I almost asked about her but decided not to pour salt into your wounds. I am glad that you kept us updated though. What happened to the other female you mentioned (65 pounder)?
