I was told this morning as a matter of fact, I will be going to Iraq. I was supposed to have been told last week but apparently my Staff Sergent forgot to mention it. The Master Sergent in my shop was talking and said like me an my room mate are going to Iraq, somewhat shocked seeing how it slipped out like casual converstaion. The Master Sergent talked with us after lunch kind of letting us know how everything was going to happen. As of right now he is just saying we are going which is probably going to happen but the actual "list" hasnt come out yet, so its not in ink so to say.

Alright enough pointless rambling....now to the point
The main reason why im posting this is for your opinion on how I am supposed to tell people I am going, my parents for instance....Im looking for a little assistance on how I should let my parents know and other loved ones. I mean you can see how it would be easier telling your friends and what not but how do you tell your mom and dad or grandparents you will be going into a war? I would appreciate any input on this.

Thanks. Brandon

I would try and gather as much info about where you are likely to be stationed so you can reassure them that you will be in a safe situation. Just make sure you don't look worried or they will worry even more.

Good luck and god bless.

Cant even tell them in person. I was sent to Japan now being told, we will be going to Iraq and we dont even get a chance to go home before we leave.

Easiest way is to just let them know matter of factly. Such as hey mom dad, whats up.....oh really.... thats great....hey i got some exciting news today...... Yeah its really great for me, I'm going to Iraq. I'm so excited ...... I know things will be okay and I'll be safe workin on (whatever it is you work on). I think I can really make a differance!

As long as you stay positive and keep the conversation positive it will be easy to do, and as long as your positive the job will be easier. Take it from me I've been there.

Lets see how did I do it. Well I told them I was going to Kuwait (sp?) and there was a possibility I would end up in Iraq. It sounds like your a mechanic so tell them that the only place they work on vehicles or whatever you work on is in the green zone in Bagdad and you wont go out of it sence you are not in a combat job. Assure them you will be fine and you will write/call them all the time. One thing you should not do is when you get there never tell them you got shot at or a motor went off 100 yards from you or that you go out and patrol tell them all that kick ass ~~~~ when you get home.
