Not to long ago I mentioned a reserve unit I drilled with not letting me deploy with them due to paperwork and MOS problems...it pains me to inform you all that on Friday August 29th 2003 a good friend of mine Staff Sergeant Mark Lawton paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country. He was killed when his convoy was struck with an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade). He leaves a wife and his two sons ages 1 and 4. Also injured in this attack was Mike Wethington, another friend, who sustained head and facial injuries in the blast. What is most dramatic is the fact that I was assigned to this very team...yet wasn't allowed to serve with these brave men. Sorry for the somber news, but I just ask that you take a moment of silence to honor these and all the brave soldiers serving this beloved country of ours.
