First off. You are what you eat so this bucket of rats, that the Boas have now eaten, is really a bucket of Boas right? You are what you eat. Wait a minute. That means my Boas are actually rats right? Yuck! So that means in fact I do make rat cages! I didn't want to make rat cages! Now I am so confused I don't know which way is up!

Anyhow, this is a 30 gallon garbage can 2/3 full of Jumbo and Monster Pig or larger rats. This is what it takes to feed the kids. No, this is what it takes twice just to feed the kids that are large enough to take a Jumbo or larger rat. That's right two buckets of rats this size are needed. That is about 350 lbs of Jumbo and larger rats. So that is about 40 gallons of rats each time I do a feed. That is about 400 Jumbo or larger rats. That of course is just the big stuff. It takes an additional 550 rats of various sizes to feed everyone else here.

When you feed this many rats you almost have to raise your own. Raising this many rats is a lot of work. It is actually more work that caring for the kids. It requires about 30 hours of mostly yucky labor per week to take care of all the rats. About 1000 lbs. of rat food is consumed per week. 10 bags of pine shavings are required as well. Did I mention the dumpster? You will need a dumpster to have all the used yucky bedding hauled away. Stink? Did I mention stink?

Now about the rats or Boas:

Is that a lot?

Are things really out of control?

Am I out of my mind?

Do I often have to clean out the rat poop from under my finger nails?

Did you know that rats "expel gas" when constricted?

That is correct. Fresh killed rats stink worse than frozen thawed rats AND begin to rot more quickly.

Did you know that sometimes when constricting a fresh killed or stunned rat, urine sprays out of the rat?

Did you know that one time while I was on the phone while feeding this happened to me and that spray got me... you got it? Right in the mouth. Talk about a yucky thing!

I'll give you a hint about the answer to the questions above. One word answers all the questions the same correctly.

Hey, while I worked in research in Portland, I was PAID to work with rats and mice. Little diabetic rats that had to have insulin shots every day (even weekends)! Little rats that occasionally went loco and tried to eat me!

Maybe that's why I like feeding day around here so much ! ;D (Granted, I have a few fewer mouths to feed.) :'(

Repeat these step quite a few more times. One time it's down a short flight of stairs with the can-o-rats and it starts all over again until the can must be filled again..

It does all end eventually. It takes a littel while to do all this. A long littel while.

Is it any wonder why people look at us like we're crazy when they find out what we do? When people ask me with raised eyebrows why I have 15 snakes I tell them it's because I don't have room for more (Yet!). They just don't understand. I'm not sure that I understand the "disease"' myself but I sure am glad that I've found a group of people that are just as caught up in these snake as I am (if not more). Thanks Jeff and all of you that input into this forum and make it such a great place to communicate.

Jeff you left out a very important step,,what goes in comes out ,and that is a lot of rats going in ,so I would asume in a week or so you repeat all the steps with a empty can getting full as you go ,,its a nonstop cycle ,,,,,, Jeff
